The List // October

to-do-list

So I have a bit of blogging paralysis, one might say. I fret about the fact I have nothing to say (well, nothing suitable for public consumption) and then I say nothing at all. Vicious cycle.

My reviews sit unwritten. My bookish and not so bookish thoughts stay unshared. And I have that vague “what am I missing/am I left?” out of the blogging world that I rarely participate in anymore. It’s weird. More than anything, I think I need to get into the habit of writing again.

It other news… Let’s address my recent goals.

In September I was hoping to:

01. Go camping in Rocky Mountain National Park. Done! As evidenced here and here.

02. Paint. Nope, but I picked a color!

03. Blog once a week/Read one book a week. I thought I had failed miserably, but I had 6 posts (7 if you include my last goal post) and I read a few books I really enjoyed.

04. Get a nursery going. Well…not exactly, but I did buy a car seat and a chair. It’s the little things?

05. Save money. So-so. I bought a car seat, a crib sheet, a rocking chair, and some baby clothes that didn’t have disgusting stains on them. Also, in this regard, I didn’t realize when I packed away clean baby clothes the hidden stains would show up in storage. I should’ve known, but I didn’t.

06. Cook at home more. Fail. We’ve had family in town, so I didn’t pay for a lot of my dining out, though that doesn’t quite excuse it.

Now for October:

01. Keep up blogging once a week and add commenting to the mix. Specifically, I’d like to catch up on the bookish six degrees of separation.

02. Paint. Is it of any interest to post about the progress? I don’t know.

03. Have a baby/reach full term. Every time I say this, I just know he/she will stay in until mid-November. But as long as it stays in long enough for me to get my ballot in the mail, I’m good. Make sure you vote!

04. Actually get rid of all the stuff I decided to donate. It’s currently sitting on the floor mocking me.

05. Get through my work schedule. I have several night/outreach events that I’m scheduled for in October and my exhaustion has been extreme as of late.

06. Deep clean my house. It’s good to have goals?

What’s on your list? Has anyone else figured out how to send motivation to someone else? I totally need that!

  1. I hear you on the blogging. I’ve been trying desperately to keep writing every week, but definitely don’t feel like I have the time to stay involved in the blogging community as much as I’d like to. It feels pretty crappy. You’re still doing pretty great with your other goals!

    1. I was thinking, after I published this, that I should include things like breathing and eating, because I have those nailed down.

      And an online presence is hard right now, I want to stay connected, yet another part of meets just wants to keep off until after the election!

  2. You have so much going on right now! I can see how it’s tough to stay involved in the blogging community and to find the mental energy to come up with things to write about.

    That being said, I’ll be looking forward to whenever you can get back into the swing of things!

    PS – I just put Miss Jane on hold at the library after reading Tarkington’s review of it on your blog.

  3. Your first two paragraphs pretty much sum up my blogging life as well. I keep wondering if I might need to change the blog to open up more avenues of discussion but that would mean lots of time and energy revamping and creating…and I’m a bit of an avoider, so…
    I remember when you first told me about the baby and the time has come. So exciting!

  4. Haha, all the stuff I want to donate/get rid of is also just sitting on a pile at one corner of my room right now…along with a whole pile of paper I’ve been meaning to shred >_< Soon, soon…

  5. I reckon if you get rid of the stuff you have to donate and post your ballot (and I’m assuming you’ll put the world one vote further away from Trump), then just put your feet up and focus on no.3.

  6. Deep clean your whole house? DAMN that is a lofty goal! My goal for this week is to get back on track with my chores spreadsheet — which, if I maintain it faithfully (I do not) would basically amount to a monthly clean of medium depth. Like everything would be dusted, various appliances would be scrubbed, etc.

  7. The problem with goals is that when you don’t reach them, it feels pretty crappy. For that reason, I try not to have too many. Today my goal is to clean the bathroom. But if I don’t get that done, there’s always tomorrow. 🙂

  8. I hear you, my friend. I’m so out of the reading and blogging loop, I don’t think I can even call myself a blogger anymore. I know the tides will change, and there will (someday) again be time for reading and blogging, but right now my #1 goal is mom-ing. Also throw in the mix, working, being a wife, an aunt, a friend, etc, etc, etc… and a person just for myself… it’s pretty impossible sometimes. Hang in there, and enjoy these last weeks! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  9. Rory, I really wish I could send motivation, but I don’t know anyone who has much of it these days. I’m blaming it on the election and its horror. You don’t want to pay attention, but its everywhere and it’s all awful.

    That aside, you’re pregnant so you’re doing something amazing every day! Hopefully, baby will not make you wait too long.

    I’m also blaming the lack of great books this fall on my reviewing blahs. I’ve given up on new releases and am reading backlist library books. Which doesn’t help with reviewing, but at least helps me escape.
